Two-time PGA TOUR winner confirmed for Australian PGA in Sydney

Corey Conners will tee it up in a professional event on Australian soil for the first time after confirming he will compete in the BMW Australian PGA Championship when the tournament returns to The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney, from November 26-29.

The 34-year-old, a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR with victories at the Valero Texas Open in 2019 and 2023, is the first international player confirmed to compete for the Joe Kirkwood Cup when the BMW Australian PGA Championship heads to New South Wales for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The Lakes Golf Club was announced as host of the Championship earlier this year and it will be the fourth time the tournament will be contested at the Sydney venue.

Ranked No.48 in the world, Conners is a two-time Olympian, representing his nation at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, and he has also made two Presidents Cup appearances, playing for the International Team in 2022 and 2024.

He was part of an elite group of professionals who made the halfway cut in all four men's majors this year and finished T14 in The Open at the weekend.

Conners will also compete in the Capital.com Australian Open the following week at Kingston Heath.

Before turning professional, Conners’ amateur golf career included a trip to Australia where he won the prestigious Lake Macquarie International Amateur, as well as being a quarter-finalist in the adidas Australian Amateur Championship.

“I’m really excited to head back to Australia later this year,” Conners said.

“I played a couple of big amateur events there just over a decade ago now, loved my time in Australia and always wanted to return at some point.

“There’s no better time than this year to make it happen, especially with the Presidents Cup coming up in Australia in just a couple of years. I’d love to be part of The Internationals squad when that comes around.

“I’ve heard great reports on the big professional events down there from the Australian guys and the other PGA Tour players who have played in them, and I’ve seen plenty of highlights as well.

“The two courses look awesome, we’re out of the northern hemisphere winter and I know Australians  love their golf so all the ingredients are there to create great golf tournaments.

“It should be two weeks to remember and hopefully I’ll get to have some success as well.”

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman welcomed the addition of Conners to the BMW Australian PGA Championship field.
